Tactics of Soft Resistance in User Experience Professionals' Values Work

User experience (UX) professionals' attempts to address social values as a part of their work practice can overlap with tactics contest, resist, or change the companies they for. This paper studies that take place in this overlap, where UX professionals try re-shape embodied and promoted by companies, addition technical systems products produce. Through interviews working at large U.S.-based technology observations meetup events, identifies used towards three goals: (1) creating space for expertise values; (2) making visible relevant other organizational stakeholders; (3) changing processes orientations values. analyzes these resistance: seek subvert existing practices structures more values-conscious ends. Yet, resistance often rely on dominant discourses logics industry. The characterizes partial "soft" tactics, but also argues nevertheless hold possibilities enacting values-oriented changes.
